Vocational Skills Development

Uganda has about 95 percent of its population working in agriculture as informal workers, the country faces a challenge among others to increase the number of jobs in the more productive sector. This involves enhancing productivity in the agriculture sector since it is the back-born of her economy. According to UNICEF Uganda also has one of the youngest populations in the world with 44 percent of its citizens under the age of 14 years. Access to education remains inequitable for example the secondary level enrolment is poor with the northern region's most affected case in point Acholi sub-region at a mere 7 percent. This means most of the youths in Northern Uganda are not absorbed in the formal employment sector because they lack the required academic credentials. A vocational skill is the better alternative for young people to find an occupation or better crate employment for their colleagues. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), youth unemployment in Uganda increased was at 6.58% in 2022. Also, a labour force survey in 2019/2020 should that about 30% of the youths who are institutionally qualified in Uganda are unable to find jobs, and the situation is even worse for semiskilled and unskilled youths.
