Uganda is one of the countries richly endowed with unabundant renewable energy resources. With a total estimated potential is about 5,300 MW. These resources, however, remain largely unexploited, mainly due to the perceived technical and financial risks at the national level. Locally its use is only limited to biomass which accounts for up to 97% of the total energy consumption, however, this is through inefficient traditional technologies like 3 stone open fires. Hydro and biomass are considered to have the largest potential for electricity generation. this is still very low since the country still has a rural electrification rate of 22%.
